windsheild wiper problem

my wipers come on when driving down the road, i do not have to turn them on they just come on and i cannot shut them off. i can turn them to high but no other speed. they sometimes will stop, but then they will start going by themselves, again. i have already replaced the wiper switch with a new one and that did not work. i have tried to replace the relays under the hood, but that did not help either. what else can i do? please help

If you have installed a new MFS, and it did not cure the ghost wipers, and you only have hi speed, time to take a look at the GEM.

Have you had rain as of late ?

Take a look up behind the dash, where the carpet is on the firewall, and behind the driver's side kick panel ( need to remove to verify ) for signs of water damage.

Some trucks had a problem where the windshield ( or roof panel ) would leak down the A pillar on the driver's side, and soak the GEM, causing corrosion between the cab fuse panel and the GEM.

yes we had over 10.5 inches of rain in the month of october. what exactly is the gem? what does that stand for? how do you fix the water leaking into the cab?

thank you for the continued help

Sorry, the GEM is the Generic Electronic Module, it controls several functions ( Driver's side window & One Touch Down function, delay for the wipers, timer for the Accessory Delay, etc ).

If you know the moon roof is fine, or you do not have that option, the windshield is an easy fix.
Have a glass shop pull the windshield, clean the mounts of the old RTV, and reseal it back into place.

The moon roof, I think the rubber trim would need to be replaced, I just read this ~ 1.5 weeks ago in this forum, where a member had similar issues to yours, with the leak being the moon roof.

Not sure how much water you put on the windshield, usually this is over a time of years of water intake to cause a problem.

The rear window leaking, is it making it into the wire path in the door sill ?

Just went to verify again your MY of your truck, could not find it.

Can you post the info on your truck ( MY, cab type, trim level ) or complete your profile.

Don't know why I went looking, but if you have a 04-08 MY truck, this is a wild goose chase, looking for the GEM.

Correct, depending on the function, either it was moved to the BSM/VSM or was integrated into the device, or moved to the instrument cluster.

OTD window is an example of GEM to device. The OTD was a function of the GEM in the 97-03 MY, but was moved to the switch in the 04-08 MY trucks.

Thanks, just wanted to confirm, else I could be sending you on a wild goose chase.

The GEM is bolted to the back of the CJB ( aka Central Junction Box, cab fuse panel ).

Here are the removal directions from projectSHO89 ( right click save as ) :
