Calibrate thermometer??

How do you calibrate the thermometer on the premium HVAC system? The other day it was 11 degrees off, and today I believe it was 7 degrees off. Is there a way?---03 Lariat FX4 SCREW-----DirtySCREW

EATC??

It is on the Automatic Premium HVAC unit. It shows outside Temp. It is WAY off from real outside temp. I still haven't taken my compass unit down to see why its not working and I don't know it it has a Temp display too or not.---DirtySCREW

It sounds like that would be the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) that you are talking about ( ~ pg 42 in your owners manual ).

What are you using to compare the truck's temp to ?
- Bank temp sign, or weather.com reading, etc ?

What is the position of the truck when you are checking it ?
- Truck facing the sun to cause it to read high ( temp probe is in the front on the radiator support ).

Some members have posted that they replaced the temp probe and got better results, others still had a problem after the replacement.

The temp probe pointing into the sun, or while sitting in traffic on a sunny day will read higher than the actual ambient air temp ( heat soak on the sensor )

If you are sure you have an accurate external temp that you are comparing it to, the next step is to replace the temp probe and test again.

about how much are those?? And mines UNDER in Temp...saying its colder than it actually is. I'm comparing it to Weather Channel, Bank signs...and just plain ol common sense. It was cool the other morning, but my temp was saying like 35 degrees. I'm cold at 35 degrees here in NC. It was probably mid 40s---DirtySCREW

Might want to try a laser temp reading to get the temp by your truck.

Bank probes can be in the sun, or be off, causing them to read high.

Weather.com / weather channel, where are they reading the temp from ?
I live 4 miles from the ground tower at ORD, and I can have 2-3* delta to the digital thermometer that I have not in the view of the sun.

"plain ol common sense", when was the last time you had your rear end calibrated for temperature measuring ?

You can change it ( no clue how much, you would need to check with the online Ford parts dealers ), but you might want to make sure why you are changing it, as it could be the same after the swap. I suspect the other members that complained after a change, were complaining for the same diagnoses reasons you gave.

I'll add this: If you're not moving, the temperature is going to be affected by engine heat, radiant sun energy in the vicinity of the probe, or other things.

You could temporarily mount an indoor/outdoor thermometer somewhere on your truck in a sheltered space (maybe put the probe near where the probe is for the truck's thermometer - in front of the radiator). Compare the two while driving.
