remote start using iphone
A buddy showed my this app so I downloaded it on my iphone. I already had a viper remote start system so I skipped out of work to get best buy to install the required hardware needed that allows the iphone to talk to the remote start system. Subscription is required but the 1st year is free, $29.99 after that per year. This thing is crazy, starting my truck with my phone!
I don't know if you get messages. The Smart Start app didn't say anything about it. I think this app needs a little fine tuning though. It wasn't working this morning with a couple tries so I redownloaded the app and reset my phone and then it worked. Later this afternoon the same thing happened. I think it's easier to start my truck with my remote start control on my keychain anyway. I might ask for a refund if the problem persists. Of course I know that best buy is going to blame apple and say it's the phone and apple is going to blame best buy and say it's the hardware.

Paralyzer: As far as range, as long as your car gets cell phone reception, you can be across the planet and still start/unlock/lock your truck.
Patman03SprCrw: You can put an additional passcode lock for that app so if you give your phone to someone else (or lose it) they can't mess with your vehicle.
Currently there is no two way communication, but the app developer has said that it's coming soon. Be on the look for an update.

I don't need to start the truck from really far away, but I wouldn't mind the ability to recieve alerts. I have a 2-way system, but I wish it had a longer range. It's the "1-mile" system.
If you use parking garages (where you don't get cell signal) it won't work. My truck barely fits in parking garages so I'm not too worried about that.

It's the One Mile Range with SST technology. They claim one mile, but you aren't normally gonna get that.
* One Mile Range based on line of sight, unobstructed testing in ideal conditions. Actual range will vary due to local conditions including but not limited to environment, terrain, physical obstructions, vehicle location and orientation, interference and other possible impediments.
Gotcha, this gives you unlimited range, so long as the receiver in the vehicle can get a signal.
It's compatible with Viper models including 5101, 5301, 5501, 5601, 5701, 5901 and 5902.
