Won't turn over

Hi there

I recently went out to start my truck and when I turned the key nothing happened. So I tested the battery, it was fine and didn't draw any voltage. I was able to get it started by Jumping the solenoid on the firewall. Having done that I figured it was the neutral safety switch, so I replaced that but still the same thing.

Does anyone have any suggestions it is a 2000 F150 4x4 with a 4.6L and it is an automatic with 180000Kms on it.

The other things that I noticed is that the lights go out when you turn the key and the cruise control has stopped working(I checked all the fuses and they seem to be fine).

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

When you got the results that the DTR sensor needed to be replaced, how did you check this ?

Also, do you have the same symptoms if you try in park, or turn the key to the run position, and put the truck in neutral then try to start ?

Here is a thread on a similar topic for info

Sounds like you need to replace the selenoid on the firewall. Otherwise I would check the battery connection at the starter.

I replaced the DTR due to the symptoms being the same as older F150s. I have tried all the other steps you had suggested.

I am also having a similar problem with my 2000 4.6 4x4. Sometimes after I drive it and turn it off then go to start it again 20 minutes later it wont do anything. I was told that the solenoid was weak and was getting stuck open in the starter because it was overheating since it is right next to the exhaust manifold. So I replaced the starter and everything was fine for a month until today. Now its doing the same thing it was doing with the old starter. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Your starter could be bad again. If you got an Auto Zone rebuild or something it is very likely. These are made with the cheapest possible parts. I would pull it and take it in to be checked. Also a wire could have worked loose or corroded.

I got it from Napa and it is only a month old. But nothing is worked loose because it starts up after an hour or so. This only happens when its hot and humid out it seems like. Is there supposed to be some type of heat shield between the starter and the exhaust manifold?

Do you have a remote starter? Some of the PATS modules have issues with heat. Are you sure the theft light isn't going on? Could be the GEM failing.

Other than that I would have to suspect a bad starter.
