Exclamation CB Radio Help

Okay, so I've had a CB in my truck for the last two years but it was the very basic one from radio shack and so I finally decided to upgrade... I got a Cobra 29 Classic on sale, I thought it was a decent deal so anyways... this is a tremendous upgrade from my $59 one I originally had. I bought a shorter fiberglass antennae to go with it, took my 102" whip off.... On the mount, I noticed a plastic piece only on top, I recalled testing my last radio with and without a plastic piece and it was much better with it, obviously since it didnt short out the signal... but there was only one on there, so i took my other off my old setup and now have the antennae and coax separated from any other metal contacts. Good, right? Next, I can't find a place to mount it... I had my old one which was like 4"x7" double sided foam taped above the E-brake handle on the dash which worked ok, but this one is too large for that. I thought about sticking it in the door panel, but the wiring for the electricity would be funky... and Ive seen them on the dash over that ext. input thing, but it's just wide enough that it doesnt fit into the tray, yet not wide enough to bridge it... I've also seen people mount them where the ash tray is. I would love to mount it here, as it would be out of the way and seeing as I don't smoke I don't really need the ash tray. But I have no idea how to take that out without braking anything...
