Need Help quickly please...Wiper control is screwy
Wiper control is screwy
I have a 1997 F150 that had the wiper control was hillbillied up by the previous owner. The previous owner had cut all of the wires at the wiper motor (except the black one) and then used a cord that plugs into the power outlet in the cab and used the other end to tie into wiper motor (the solid white lead), so when the lead is plugged into the 12v outlet, wipers would work...lovely
So I find here in the forums a cool way to fix the wipers (cleaned out the multi-function switch) and thought that this would do the trick. I tied all of the cut wires back together and presto!!!!....nothing worked. So I figure that I'll just put the wires back together the way it was so I had wipers. Well I was putting things back the way they were, as I was disconnecting the white w/ black stripe, there was some arcing...oops :o. After all is said and done (and back to where I started) I have no wipers at all and I need to have them available by tomorrow. Any suggestions would be really helpful.
On another note, my overdrive button is not working. I saw here in the forums that it may be some frayed wires in the steering column, but as I was taking panels apart to check the wires, I am having a devil of a time taking the top plastic part off (the ignition plastic is in the way). Any ideas how to get the plastic ignition parts out of the way to get the top plastic part off?
Thanks in advance for the help!

sounds to me like you need a multifunction switch, and some harness repair.
to remove the upper steering column shroud, you have to remove the key cylinder. just put the key into "run" position, look underneath the key cylinder for a small round hole, insert a pick to release lock ball, and pull out the tumbler assembly. the plastic for the shroud will lift off then.
