Hello I recently purchased a 2006 f150 fx4 supercrew cab and when i push turn signal forward lights dim. They are brighter when it is towards driver rather than towards panel. Is that supposed to be high? when closer to driver or not? One other thing where is high beam indicator light ? thanks for u time Bjlink

You pull it toward you and let it go to change from high to low, then you pull it again to go back to high.
You should have used hibeam as your screan name

Pulling it toward you is to flash your highs only. Push the stalk forward to go to high beams and stay there. High beam indicator is pretty much in the center of the cluster.

bjlink, my truck's lights behave the way kingfish51 describes, and I'm pretty sure there were no changes in this circuit between 2005 and 2006. If your lights go to low beam when the stalk is forward, then it sound like the lights are wired in reverse.

What happens if you pull the stalk toward you (past the "center" position)? This is a "momentary" position and the stalk will not stay there - it will go back to the center (which is supposed to be low beam) position. This "momentary" position should "flash" your high beams - does it do that?

hi beam lights

iI have tried with signal lever in down position and with it in up position. In up position lights are brighter than in down also when i pull it all the way to me (flash to pass) the lights dim. If lights are left on nothing chimes as reminder and there is no high beam indicstot light that goes on in any position.Any help would be great. I am thinking of taking it back to dealer for warrenty work on this issue but its 250 deductable Thanks Bjlink......

It appears you have a fairly serious wiring error here. Unless you are comfortable working with this, you'd be much better off taking it to the dealer.

I think you'll have to pull the steering wheel to get at the multi-position switch, which is where I anticipate the problem is, and that requires disabling and removing the airbag, when you remove the wheel for access. I've done it, and I felt nervous as a cat the whole time. (And, I'm happy as hell to work on electrical circuits).

If the multi-position switch was wired incorrectly, or if there is some fault that is a result of wear in that area, you might be able to get the $250 deductible waived. There may possibly be a service bulletin or recall out for your problem, too - I seem to remember something about wiring being frayed by the movement of the adjustable wheel. And, I noted what were obvious "repairs" on the wiring in this area when I opened my steering column, in my truck (bought used) to install DRLs. If your truck was never fixed in a recall, the repair should be free.

heres the high beam indicator on a lariat (im not sure which you have because your info says lariat but the post says fx4). my truck is an stx and when i put this lariat gauge cluster in my truck the chime quit working when i left the lights on or left the keys in the ignition. but it didnt cause issues with the high and low beams. i would assume thats some wiring problem like jackandjanet mentioned.

What kind of headlights are in there? The previous owner wouldn't have put a single xenon kit in there, would they?

well thanks everyonefor your input

I started chasing fuses down first as the old school aproach tells you to do. simple first then progress to more difficult area's. Low and behold first fuse was Blown!! replaced it and then checked all others. well problem fixed with high beams !! Now all thats left is the chime issue and i must say the seat belt minder has been disabled also. So maybe that is why system does not reconize that driver door is open or radio will not stop when drivers door opens either. It stops after ten mins. If anyone knows how to renable minder i will try that and maybe I will have a fully functional truck!! lol Thanks again for ur help Ps truck is fx4 not lairt I will correct that right away Bjink.....

if you have the owners manual then look in the index, or search this site, for beltminder, that will tell you how to turn it back on. i have mine turned off but the door chime still works. my guess is that the switch (or whatever it is) is hung up. i had that problem with my passenger door, when i opened the door the dome light never came on, but it eventually freed itself up and its working properly now.

If you don't have an owner's manual, you can download one free here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp The seat belt reminder procedure is in it.

I'm happy you found the problem and that it was a simple fuse. I would not have suspected that. Glad you didn't try to open the steering column and play with the wiring!

Sorry for trying to mislead you! :o

Thanks

Well thanks everyone i will try the door switch idea as it seems very likely to me. Maybe a jumper wire in the right place will indicate wether it is that or not anyone having a wiring schematic of that switch would be very helpfull . I am sure tho its a simple switch so not to much technical parts will be in it.Some times a simple cleaning does wonders (contact points) now if the rain would let up ...lol i would be happy ...and finish the job Thanks everyone ..........Bjlink

At the risk of misleading you again, back about a year and a half ago, when I first joined this forum, there were quite a few posts on the door switches and how they would "stick". The problem is, in these trucks, the switch is internal in the door itself and is sort of part of the door latch.

I seem to recall people spraying in the door latch with WD-40 and that would free things up, but I don't care for that approach myself.

Try a search on "radio does not turn off" or something similar. I think you'll find the solution.
