Toggle switch help
Ok so here is what i want to do i want to wire up my tag lights to a toggle switch where i can blink them with a flip of a toggle switch but i dont know what guage of wire thinking (14gauge wire) to use or what toggle switch to get cause they make toggles in 5a,10a,15a,20a,30a i am thinking a 10a, maybe a 20a.
It depends on how much current will be running through the wire. According to the12volt.com:
So as long as the current is never going to exceed 25 Amps, a 14 Gauge wire is enough.
Cable Size ----- Current Capacity
Wire Gauge ----- Amperage (amps)
1/0 ----- 350
2 ----- 225
4 ----- 150
8 ----- 100
10 ----- 60
12 ----- 40
14 ----- 25
16 ----- 15
Wire Gauge ----- Amperage (amps)
1/0 ----- 350
2 ----- 225
4 ----- 150
8 ----- 100

12 ----- 40
14 ----- 25

Interesting. What kind of power are the tag lights pulling? And btw, why? I think my 2004 uses a 194 bulb. Not sure what truck you have but I would bet it uses a 194 bulb. That being said, 2 bulbs is 10w. 10w/12v = <1amp. So basically a 2 amp fuse should work fine and 14 awg wire will be plenty sufficient unless you plan to use a few miles of wire, lol.
I would think because it is his truck, and he wants to do it.
I don't recall the thread asking for legal advice or opinions, but then again some members have never had a thought they have not shared.

Please do not take this as a criticism or me trying to be a smart (insert animal here) in any way shape or form... I am strictly wondering why you would prefer the capability of control over these light vs leaving them on when the truck says so... Thank You very much for taking the time to reply to my inquiry.
Is that humble enough for me not to get jumped?!?
well kind sir im a junior in high school and how many have there tag lights on a toggle switch where i live no one until now,one reason i have them wired to a toggle is when everyone is going somewhere and there is like 6 to like 13 cars i can be flashing my tag lights and i am going to be getting comments on them saying how cool it is,its like when you put wheels on your truck the only reason you do it is because they make the truck look good and people will comment on them.Am i right?
