Question Remote Start System Problem

Hello everyone.

I am fairly new to the forum and i thought i would start off by asking a question about a problem that has been buggin me for a wile.

I installed an alarm with remote start function into my 2004 F150 XLT 5.4 Triton. The alarm portion works great, but im having trouble with the remote start. I believe i installed everything correctly, but when i activate the remote start feature, it wont turn over. i can hear that it turns on all the accessories like it would if i had turned the key to the ON position, but the starter dosnt go.

the only thing that i can think of is that there is a wire with the system that is labeled as "factory alarm disarm output" and i did not connect that to anything.

Does that wire need to be connected to something in order to allow the starter to work?

I didnt install that wire because i couldnt figure out where i would connect it to.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

It might help to know more about the model of alarm and bypass kit you used in order to get an answer. Not sure about that wire, but a few questions come to mind.

* Will it crank remotely with the key in the ignition? ie. is it a PATS problem.

* Did you hook up two different ignition wires to the alarm?

* Is there a hood pin switch that keeps yours from starting with the hood up?

well first off, i dont know what you mean by "bypass kit" haha so maybe that is the problem.

i got the AsianWolf FM 2009 V2.0
http://www.asianwolf.com/car-alarm-2009.html

it came with a hood pin switch, but i didnt know what wire to connect it to, so i just left it off.

there is a smaller yellow wire in the main harness coming from the brain that was labeled to go to the ignition, so i connected it. And there was a larger gauge wire coming from the remote start harness that was also labeled for the ignition, so i connected it. i tried doing the remote start with the smaller wire off and on and still got the same results.

I havnt tried doing the remote start with the key in the ignition, i will give that a try when i go out to my truck.

I was thinking that maybe the "factory alarm disarm" wire was to help bypass the ignition needing the key fob to be able to get the starter going. but i dont know what to connect it to. all the accessories come on when activated, just no starter.

Anyone else in here with a remote start system in their newer '04+ F150?

A lot of members here have remote starts on their 04-08 MY trucks.

One thing I see missing from the URL you provided is a PATS bypass module.

This is not your current problem, as you are not even getting a crank no start issue.

The hood pin you left off, which could be part of the problem. Install the hood pin, or figure out what it is doing ( grounded, or open switch ) when it is closed.

The hood pin is made so the engine cannot be started with the hood open, leaving it out of the install is not a correct install of the system.

Start with finishing the install correctly, and see if you get to the crank no start part for not having the PATS bypass in.

ok, i put the key in the ignition and tried the remote start function, and it started right up perfectly.

so what does that mean?

it starts by remote only when the actual key is in the ignition, so do i need that bypass thing you were talking about? if so, what do you recomend?

There are others on here that can probably help you pick out a bypass for your unit better than I can. Just to be clear, when you installed the key in the ignition you did not turn it to accessory position, just placed it in the switch correct?

I think you can actually fasten a "programmed" key in the console against the steering column right to the bottom of the switch and use it instead of a bypass. You might try holding the key next to the column and try the remote start as a test.

yeah i just placed the key in the ignition. i didnt turn it.

well i noticed that i just have to touch the key to any part of the metal ignition key hole and it starts beeping like it does when i put the key in.

i looked up bypass kits and they are not cheap, haha.

thanks for all the help.

Here is a link to the bypass I bought for my truck from Travis @ KC AutoSound. He knows his stuff and treated me right on the deal.

Glad I could help!

My key is next right on my ignition unit and it works perfectly with the remote.

I agree it sure sounds like you found your fix
