Odometer Backlight

I was driving home last night and noticed the backlight on my odometer is not working. The rest of the instrument panel was lit up as well as all of the other dash lights. I thought maybe a fuse and attempted to locate a fuse for that one item but could not find it in the owners manual. I pulled a few fuses out that were for the instrument panel as a whole and they were all good.

Anyone have any ideas. Is it a bulb?

Should have done a search

I posted before searching. Wow, this seems like a common problem. I am under warranty until October so Ford can fix it.

Mine went out last Monday and the dealer wants $715.00 plus tax to replace the instrument cluster.

WOW!

Intermittent Odometer backlight

I had a similar problem with the backlight going out on my 2000 F-150. I found an old thread that solved the problem. I pulled out the instrument panel and disconnected the circuit board. The problem turned out to be a cracked solder on the back of the circuit board that the connector for the odometer is plugged in. I did have to use a magnifying glass to see the crack. I just resoldered it with a low watt (15W) soldering iron. I haven't had a problem since.

You can probably look up the old thread that has pictures to guide you through it.
Hope this helps.

The problem with the 99-03 odometer disappearing is this thread as a starter

https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...er-repair.html

The problem with the 04+ MY ( not including 04 heritage or Lightning ) odometer backlight not working ( odometer still is readable with external light ) is this thread as a starter

https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...help-asap.html

Just so the threads are here for a search, please watch the MY range on the threads, and this is not the end all list for the problem, just the common solution

Ok, you posted this in 4 places, and did not include all the info with each post.

1. This post, just that it went blank.

2. Another post that it went blank after a Hypertech programmer install

3. Another post that makes it sound like you removed the programmer, but no confirm if you did.

4. A post wishing someone would answer quicker.

A bit of clear, concise lead up to the problem, and where it is at now would help, rather then your post of :

Oh, and let me apologize for the site, in regards to not getting you an answer in under 24 hours.
Actually, that post about wishing someone would answer you was 11 minutes after your 1st post on the site.

Did you check the revision of the Hypertech Programmer to your PCM revision, prior to installing ?

Have you tried to return the PCM to the factory load ?

Have you checked the Hyertech site / tuner that you purchased it from to see if there is a known issue with this ?

Everything Steve said, plus this:

The odometer problems on 1997 - 2004 (Heritage) trucks are different than the issues with 2004 (new body style) - present trucks. The older trucks use an LCD just for the odometer. The newer trucks use a larger LCD screen as an "Information Center" - which contains mileage, temperature, direction, etc. That said, I'm going to focus on the 2004 - present trucks.

I too lost the backlight function in my Information Center and was told by my dealer that I needed to replace the entire cluster. Since they'd never steered me wrong, I figured they were right. But, I didn't have $300 laying around for new cluster, so I just lived with the issue. (The inforamtion was still there, just much harder to read.)

If you do a little searching, you will find a post showing that there is indeed a bulb used to illuminate that particular area that one can fairly easily replace by removing the cluster. I have yet to find the time to do it, but it sounds a whole lot easier and cheaper than a new cluster.
