Hi this thread is a bit old but I have similar problem where it takes like 20-30 seconds holding brake for truck to shift from park... However, I replaced the brake light switch and it did not help. What else could cause this? One thing I noticed was my original switch has 6 pin connector and replacements only have 4 I assume other 2 aren't needed anymore but was odd.
My truck is 2004 F-150 FX4 supercab.

Old is not an issue, no worries.

Start with checking the shift interlock circuit, to see if it takes that long to energize. From Post #7 above

- Tan w/ red stripe & pink w/ light green stripe go to the shift interlock
If this energizes straight away, the next place I think the problem is the shift interlock solenoid. Could be slow to react, but best to confirm by checking the shift interlock circuit.

No, get a meter and test on both those wires with the brake pedal on and off. When the brake pedal is on, both those wires should have power, when the brake pedal is off, 1 side should have power, the other no power.

Is is in the same switch you already replaced.

From Post #7 above
It is on the brake pedal arm, big black switch with 4 wires out of it on a connector. Mine has a bright yellow c-clip housing on it.

You should see a light green, light green w/ red stripe, pink w/ light green and a tan w/ red stripe wires on it.
- Tan w/ red stripe & pink w/ light green stripe go to the shift interlock
- light green w/ red stripe & light green go to the PCM for the BOO functions & to the CHMSL directly and to the MFS for the turn / stop lamp functions.

Im having a similiar issue, i cant put my truck into park without using the brakes and my cc does not come on. My brake lights do work tho. So if im not mistaken for my situation its most likely the shift interlock correct? I have the floor shifter so it would be somwhere inside console near the shifter right? Is it just a simple plug and play type replacement or should i bring it in.

Thanks

Putting the truck into park while having the brake pressed is normal.

For the CC, did you change any of your tail lamps to LED ?

Woops, I meant to say that I can put my truck into drive without pushing the brake, and I have not changed out my tail lamps.....I read a couple of your other post SS about this issue and it seems from my reading that it would be the solenoid not the switch on the brake pedal. Does that seem correct?

Could be the switch is shorted closed, did you meter the wire colors above ( post #7 ) to see if the Shift Interlock section of the Brake Pedal Position switch is working correctly ?

Do the brake lamps go on and off ? ( don't know if you looked at all 3 ).

The CC would be if the stop lamps are not functional, or if the CC disconnect switch has an issue ( at the top of the brake pedal lever, not in the same switch as the stop lamps & Shift Interlock

I havnt been able to meter it yet but since I can put the truck into drive with no brake and my brake lights work it seems to be punting to the brake shift interlock right? Ill call ford and see if they have the part and try replacing it, I have a long drive coming up and would really like cruise control to be working.

No, you need to meter both switches.

The Shift Interlock is one part of the brake pedal switch, the CC disconnect switch is at the top of the pedal.

I replaced the CC disconnect switch and no fix yet, I had my wife stand behind the truck and noticed that my 3rd brakelight is not working when I hit the brakes, before I knew this I went and bought the shift interlock solenoid and tore my whole center console apart to replace it but could not find a part that matched it? I'm thinking that they sold me the solenoid for the steering column shifter instead of the center console shifter that I have on my FX4? What should I try next? The stop lamp switch?

Next step is to meter ( not remove and replace ) the BPP ( Brake Pedal Position ) Switch.

Color codes up the thread a bit for the Brake Switch circuit and for the Shift Interlock switch.
