I need a scanner. I now have three OBD2 cars, two of which are sick. I'd like to get something with real time data instead of just the single code display model.

I don't think I'll use it heavily, so I don't need the $2000 Snap On setup, I was thinking more like the cheapy versions.

Things to look for? I found a few on Ebay for $70 that read all five protocols including CAN for 2007-up vehicles, and its updatable.

That one looks good, but it does not say which manufactures specific code it reads.

These can vary per mfgr.

I have the AutoTap one, with a few mfgr specific plug modules.

The nice part is the data logging feature. The bad part is it requires a laptop to run it on.

It can be found for around 70-80 bucks, its pretty sweet, tells you what monitors are set, and Check engine light codes. Comes with a CD that tells you what each code means.

 

It says that it has all current codes for mfrs up through 2008. The CD comes with all the codes. If I step up to the next model it comes with a USB and I can update it from my PC.

 

I use autoenginuity software. It hooks up to a PDA, or PC and gives you pretty much everything OBDII provides. It is pretty slick. Their website is www.autoenginuity.com.
