electrical issues?!?!?!?!?!
electrical issues?!?!?!?!?!
I have been having trouble with some electrical issues in my 2004 Screw Lariat recently. I really dont want to shell out money I dont even have to a dealer or shop to fix this. Below is a list of the couple of things going on.
1) my radio and other accessories (pwr windows, pwr moonroof, pwr rear slider, etc.) stay on when I exit the vehicle. I found a post on here of someone with similar problems and they fixed a corroded splice on the drivers side door sill.....I looked but couldn't find it. Anyone know if this is the probelm? If so, can you explain where this splice is.....maybe even with pictures if you have done this fix.
2) the left trun signal stops blinking when I apply the brakes. It works just fine otherwise, just stalls when there is pressure on the brakes. the right blinker works just fine.
3) I filled up yesterday and noticed my gas gauge didn't recognize the fill for quite some time. Usually the gauge needle stalls for a bit when the truck is started to get the reading and then move fairly quickly to the appropriate spot. This time I noticed it moved very slowly to the full mark. First time it has ever done this.....I find it kind of weird that this just started along with the blinker issue.
Please help!!

I see you found the splice in the door sill, you replied to a thread on the topic.
Item #2 left turn signal
- when you use your left turn signal, do you notice it is not as bright as the right side ?
- Does the same thing happen when you use your 4 ways, and put on your brakes ?
- If you move the tilt in the steering wheel all the way up, or all the way down, does the same thing happen ?
Item #3, fuel level gauge
- have you tried adding fuel injector cleaner to the truck ?
- Where do you normally buy fuel ?
This sounds like the fuel tank pressure transducer sensor is stuck / sticking

I actually found the orange wire splice on the passenger side that was causing issues with my driver power seat, power pedals and mirrors. I looked for the violet colored one someone mentioned on the drivers side to fix this (same problems mentioned = fix???). I never did find it........
the left turn signal works as it should and is as bright as the right. i haven't tried the hazards yet or mess witht the tilt. I'll check this afternoon and post the results.
I haven't added anything to the tank other than fuel. I normally purchase gas from Holiday, Super America or Marathon. I'm not that picky on where I buy gas. I dont really know the difference between one stations to anothers.
Thanks SSCULLY
In areas where movable tops on fuel storage tanks, the bottom of a 1M gal tank is sold off to non refinery operators, that don't really care how much water and other crap is in the fuel ( this why it is cheaper ).
The higher BTU content fuel are Sunoco, Volaro are the top 2.
ok.....I found the purple wire splice in the rear drivers side door sill. It was corroded, new splice fixed this right up!
I still have an issue with my turn signals though. My original diagnose was wrong though.....
current issues:
left signal activated = left front, left rear & right rear signals on. Apply the brakes and these stop blinking and the dash light dims. The hazards work fine with and w/o brakes. tilt the wheel and the same things happen.
right signal activated = right front and right rear signals on. These work as they should with and w/o brake pressure.
still not sure about the fuel gauge. I'll see if this happens again at my next fill up.
Sscully??????? Anyone else??????????????

Check for a good ground in the bulb socket.
The dim when you put on the brakes sounds like it is trying to use something other then ground for ground.
Could be a corroded bulb socket.

bad ground in the bulb socket, ya think???? I have no idea but I would have never thought to check that. Could that be a legitimate possibility or just a hunch?

Here are the pictures I took while replacing the bad splice.
I have a 2004 F150 Supercrew Lariat. The bad splice was right where others said it would be, right before going up the rear column on the drivers side. I just took out the door sill and pulled back the weather stripping partially in the corner and that gave me enough access to pull the plastic column away to let the wire bundle slide out. I didn't have to take this column piece off.

Any other suggestions for my turn signal problem???
your turn signals may somehow be backfeeding/shorting out through your trailer connector.
if you dont feel like looking for a short somewhere you could just to do a quick test and pull all the trailer running/stop/turn fuses.
F10 - trailer backup/parklamp relays
F36 - trailer right stop/turn
F42 - trailer left stop/turn
relay 201 - trailer parklamps
just a idea that you can try, i know i have read about people having this problem because of trailers.

How about checking for ground in the bulb socket ?
I see where there is the comment on it, but no answer if you put the meter to the ground side, and check to the frame, what the resistance is.

I have a 98 regular cab and my turn signals wont work and it is now making a funny sound when the steering wheel is tilted down. Anybody have an idea of what this could be.

Hey guys....guess what? My problem is back! My radio and windows have full power when the key is removed and the door is opened. I have to assume my splice I fixed would have held up longer than this (approx. 1 year?). I forgot to mention in my earlier replies that I drilled some drain holes in my door sills to prevent water build up. Is there another "problem" area related to this issue or do I just suck at doing wire splices?
I had the same problems with my '97 f150 - it was a bad "multi-function" switch (the turn signal switch)
with mine i also had problems with the wipers
i never did change it, now the truck is traded in and the brand new switch is sitting on my shelf
