Power doorlocks inop.

Well i just purchased the truck, and the previous owner was open about some issues.

This one 'gremlin' is in regards to the power doorlocks. Whenever i try to lock or unlock the doors with either the door switch or key fob, nothing happens. Let me specify.

When i press the lock/unlock buttons, i can hear the doors trying to actuate, however neither seems to do so. It is like they are trying to, and i can see them physically move a little bit, yet they cannot go from locked to unlocked or vice versa.

Anyone have similar symptoms? I am going to look into it further by taking off the door covers, but just wanted to know if there is something that i am overlooking.

Thanks

I haven't had your problem, but it sounds like you've eliminated switch or fuse problems. I seem to remember a post a while back about power door locks not working due to "binding" or some similar problem in the actuator, and, a long time ago I used to have problems in a Mercury due to oxidation forming on the motor armature. You might try "searching" for "power door lock" problems.

Burned out actuators. Happens in EVERY older Ford truck. Just had my F-250 fixed at the dealer. $200 out the door for my extended cab.

There are two ways to fix it yourself, you can pick up the updated lock assembly at the dealer ($40 each), or you can tear apart your lock assembly and replace the actuator with a piece of foil or a cut up copper penny. I was going to go the copper penny route, but got a remote start/alarm for Christmas, and wanted working locks NOW. Plus, getting those lock assemblies out is harder than it looks, a few of the clips on it are a pain...

Thanks guys. I am going to check it out when i put some new 6x8's in. If it looks like i can swap the actuators out myself, ill go buy some. I'd really rather go that route then leave it at a dealer for a couple days just for that (and pay 200).
