Cruise control Code PO581. Any Ford techs out there?

My cruise control works for about the first 5 minutes in the morning then it will shut off and not turn back on. My brother scanned it and came up with code PO581. Only problem is the scanner will not show a fix for that code. Anybody out there with any ideas?? Yes, I already searched.

From i.ride.suzuki's excellent list of DTCs, this is the meaning of that code: "P0581 Cruise Control Multifunction Input A Circuit High". The fact there IS a code suggests the problem is not something simple like a brake sensor that's incorrectly reporting brake application, or something simple like a burned out 3rd brakelight - since it works for a while.

I think you need a wiring diagram for the cruise control and I don't have one. SSCULLY probably does and will likely come up with a solution for you.

I have done some research and found that it's probably the Shift Interlock Switch. Some other guys on a different forum had the same issue. I can move my shifter without applying the brake. They say it's telling the PCM that the brake is applied.

If you have it that far, here is the diagram for the shift interlock

If I have the correct one, it is on the side fo the floor shift, towards the driver.

Might want to see if the white button on it is stuck in the down position ??

Replace the Shift Interlock on my truck yesterday and now the cruise control is working perfect.

Thank you for posting your solution.

Too often this part is forgotten, and threads go dead.

Second that! ptownfire, you might want to contact RockPick about making this a "sticky" or something. Feedback like this should not be allowed to disappear.
