Check Engine Light: HELP
Hi,
I have a 2000 F-150 XLT 5.4L Off Road Package. My "Check Engine" light came on and I am wondering if anyone knows how to shut it off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the truck. Can someone please tell me how to shut it off?
Thank you,
Marc-

Disconnect your battery for a few minutes, then connect it up and start the truck. That resets the computer. If the light comes on again, then you do have something wrong with the truck. Usually the light comes on for a reason. You may want to consider pulling the codes from the computer which will tell you what the reason was the light came on. There are tools you can use to do this yourself or you can take it to a shop.
Re: Check Engine light
Thanks man. I will give this a try.
I know with Honda's (My wife has one), you can hold the trip odometer button down for like 30 seconds while the car is off then start it and that will disable the warning lights, i.e - service light.
I wasn't sure if Ford had something similar.
Thanks again,

Just bust that bulb out of there. Sounds like you don't have much use for it anyways.
You might wanna let the wife know you'll most likely be needing her car in the near future.
Fix it right, Auto Zone scans for free.

Disconnect the battery would only work if you did something like fuel the truck with it running, didn't have the gas cap tight enough, or didn't have the dipstick in all the way.
If you don't fix the problem, it will be back in 2 drive cycles. This is 2 sets of driving sustained over 46 mph, with other criteria ( warm engine, fuel level > 1/4 tank, etc )
jbrew has a good idea, hope you don't have EPA tests, as this will be an immediate failure, having the CEL illuminated, or a DTC P1000 ( emissions tests not completed ) in most states.
