Electrical Problems

Last night my truck broke down on the highway. At first all the lights inside the cab went out and seconds later the engine turned off. I had the truck towed back to my house. When I got home I used jumper cables to start it and it started, while moving it in my driveway, the lights went out again inside, and then I shut it off and it would not restart it was just making a clicking noise. The lights are coming on and off intermitently and are not really dim at all. I don't think it is something as simple as the alternator, because the battery is not totally dead, and I don't think it is the battery because it can still power all the lights. There are some very strange things happening with the lights, I am not sure where to start. Thanks in advance for the help.

Start with the battery cables ( both ends ) to see if they are corroded, or fray'd.

That is step one, considering you have intermittent power issues.

The battery terminals are not corroded and the wires are not loose. I check the ground coming from the battery to the firewall also, under the main fuse box, and that is not loose. While running I put a multimeter on the battery and it only read about 13.5V, not quite 14.4 but above 12 so it may be okay. It seems very strange and hard to believe it is just a simple battery and alternator problem, but I suppose I will have them both tested at Autozone.
