Outside Temperature Gauge

Hey all,

I have a 2000 F-150 7700 XLT. It has the center console with outside temp and compass.

Both have worked great up until today, compass is still correct, but the outside temp is way off. It is snowing outside and the truck says its 24 C.

Just wondering where that sensor is, or if there is something else that can cause this.

Cheers

Ok after digging through the interweed I've found that replacing the sensor which is in front of the rad will fix this problem.

are you sure its saying 24 CELCIUS?

im asking because you may have it on fahrenheit.

24F = -4C , which would be snow temperature.

where is temperature sensor?

Could you be more precise about the location of the temperature sensor? I need to replace my sensor. I have a 2001 F-150. The temperature is reading about 5 degrees high. When the air temperature is 30 degrees F, the overhead console is showing 35 degrees F.

02SC4x4 - Yes I'm sure about the C and F... they are both way too high.

lhart123 - I'll see if I can find that posting again... it was on another forum. Basically you take the plastic cover off under the hood that is over the rad... then you will see the sensor mounted in front of the rad. I'll repost later on when I find it.

this post is showing the sensor on a 05 f150 but it should give you an idea of where to look to find it.

check out post #25 for the picture

grayghost - you should be able to get at it easily beacuse your grille wont be in the way when you pop the hood.

lhart123 - you might have to remove the grille to get at the sensor. the sensor is located in front of the radiator on a support.

Found the sensor

to RIDE7700 and 02SC4X4,
I found the sensor right where you said it would be. Many thanks. Today the temperature is -11F. The sensor is reading -3F. When the weather warms up, I will diagnose the sensor. thanks again.
