Remote Start Install Preperation
Remote Start Install Preperation
Hello;
I'm preparing to install a DEI Viper 5301 Remote Start Keyless Entry module in my 1997 F150. The truck is an automatic with a gas engine, power locks, but no factory keyless entry. I've just have a few questions that I'd like to get a better understanding for.
I'm preparing to install a DEI Viper 5301 Remote Start Keyless Entry module in my 1997 F150. The truck is an automatic with a gas engine, power locks, but no factory keyless entry. I've just have a few questions that I'd like to get a better understanding for.
- Can anyone verify for me that there is a Black/Blue positive door trigger wire in the 97 F150?
- For anyone familiar with the DEI Viper line of products, the first of six wiring harnesses that come with this unit has a Remote Start / Turbo Timer Activation Input. Do I have to do anything with this wire? If I understand it correctly, out of the box it is programmed as a simple on/off switch.
- The third of six wiring harnesses that come with this unit is an 8-pin Heavy Gauge Remote Start Harness and is depicted below as numbered items 1-8. The second group of 8 items shows the truck wires that I intend to connect to the wiring harness. For example, Pin 2, the Red/White wire, of the harness will be connected to the Black/Green wire from the trucks ignition switch harness. I collected the information below from this site, but found some conflicting information. Can anyone verify that I'm heading down the right track? Should I be connecting something to pin 1, the pink wire, of the harness? Likewise, there are a number of posts that talk about this particular group of wires in the truck, but I wasn't able to pull anything consistent from those posts as far as which wire is Ignition 2 or 3, or if they exist at all. Any clarification would be appreciated.
- - Pink - Ignition 1 Input/Output, Connect to vehicle's ignition wire, supplies voltage to the vehicle's ignition and the ignition feed for the remote start.
- - Red/White - Fused (30A) Ignition 2 / Flex Relay Input 87, This wire is the polarity feed for the ignition 2 / Flex relay.
- - Orange - Accessory Output, Connect this wire to to the accessory wire that powers the climate control system.
- - Violet - Starter Output, Connect this wire to the starter wire in the vehicle.
- - Red - Fused (30A) Ignition 1 Input, This wire s the polarity feed for the Ignition 1 relay.
- - Pink/White - Ignition 2 / Flex Relay Output 30, Factory programmed as Ignition 2, can be reprogrammed.
- - Pink/Black - Flex Relay Input 87a key side of Flex Relay, Used when ignition switch isolation is necessary.
- - Red/Black - Fused (30A) Accessory/Starter Input, This wire is the polarity feed to the accessory and starter relays.
- - Pink - Ignition 1 Input/Output -----------> Nothing
- - Red/White - Fused (30A) Ignition 2 ------> Black/Green - Ignition 3
- - Orange - Accessory Out ----------------> Red/Black - Ignition 2
- - Violet - Starter Out ---------------------> Red/lt. Blue - Starter
- - Red - Fused (30A) Ignition 1 In ----------> Blue/Green - Ignition 1
- - Pink/White - Ignition 2 ------------------> Nothing
- - Pink/Black - Flex Relay In 87a -----------> Nothing
- - Red/Black - Fused (30A) Acc/Starter In --> Gray/Yellow - Accessory
No responses, did I ask to many questions? I can go out with my multi-meter to help narrow things down regarding which wires in the truck to use, but any suggestion on how pin 1 on the modules wiring harness is used would be helpful.
Can I assume that Ignition 1 and Ignition 2 on the modules wiring harness should be connected to truck wires that show voltage when the key is in position 1 or 2 respectively?

Twheeler, maybe this will help you.

Hey Slammedsplash;
Thanks for taking the time to share this. It looks a lot like something kcautosound posted, but yours has the window wire colors; which is helpful. I didn't want to have to spend a couple hours out in the cold figuring the details out, but it looks like that's going to be the case. Thanks again!
