Keyless Entry problem
Keyless Entry problem
Hey guys i have a 2001 f150 supercrew with the stock security system. I bought it knowing the keyless entry remote didn't work thinking it was just a new battery. So i took it into the local key shop and they tried to program it but they couldn't get it to program. They couldn't even get the truck into the programming mode. They told me the remote was probably "fried" so i bought a new remote but i got the same result, can't even get it into programming mode. All the automatic locks work and everything thats why i don't get why this is happening. Anyone got any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it.
I may be way off here, but I think it could be that your fobs do not match the code that has been entered. The original factory code always remains encrypted plus, the owner can add a code. Try to find out the factory code. It is on a card, sometimes with the manual (unless someone removed it), and on the Supercrews, it is on a label stuck to the security module that is located behind the rear seat back. Reenter that code following the instructions in the manual. Once that is done, you should be able to follow the instructions to set your own code.

I did a search of "reprogramming security" and came up with some hits. This one looks to have some info. You might do some searchs using different words and see what other hits you might get.

When I added a RKE fob to my 2001 I really had to haul through the key on - off sequence to get into programming mode. It took me 3 times to get into programming mode, and I thought I did it the same all 3 times.
Try to enter programming again, but try to move fast with the off-on transitions. You only have 10 seconds to do this cycle 3 times ending in the on position.

Also, have all the fobs you want programmed, when you enter RKE programming mode, all previous fobs are erased from the system.
BTW : This has nothing to do with the keypad on the truck, or the factory code as posted above, Fob programming is separate from this. Also the factory code is on the RAP/CSM under the dash on 99-03 MY trucks, not on the BSM/VSM on the rear wall as the '04+ MY trucks.

The RAP/CSM ( build date dependent on which it is, NOV-99 build date change over for RAP to CSM ) vs. BSM/VSM ( don't know the build date change on this, not noted in the 2006 EVTM like the 2001 EVTM ) is another one that can get confusing at times. I catch myself calling a 2002 a RAP still to this day
