01 screw cruise problem temp fix and questions
Cruise quit working so I ran the cruise test and recieved 2 flashes after. This indicated the following: BPP defective, circuit is defective, brake applied, CPP switch or jumper (if equipped).
Truck has the recall jumper installed.
I unplugged the switch on the front of the master cylinder and it is wet. To test the switch I connected a jumper wire between the two connections on the switch plug. The cruise now works with all features.
The question is what the heck does the switch on the master cylinder do? My guess is a brake system pressure check?
I live out in the country and wondering if can run with the jumper inplace until i get to a ford dealer?
I understand they only cost around $20.00

Sounds like a problem with the new switch that was installed with the recall.
The switch on the brake is a secondary safety feature, that if you happen to loose your brake lights while using the CC, the pressure at the master cylinder is to deactivate the CC if you apply the brakes.
I actually ran my 2001 with a jumper in teh end of the factory ( pre recall ) for about 8 months ). They did not have the parts until Dad got the truck, and now post recall, he unplugged it, and put the jumper back in, so there is no chance of a problem later ( herd some still had problems post recall, just don't trust it that much ).
If you can figure out that you can use the brakes or the off switch on the steering wheel, if the brakes don't take the CC off, don't need the secondary deactivation switch ( again if you loose brake lights while driving ).
If you don't want to drive to the dealer, to order the switch, then go back for it, you can drop Keith an email at www.oemfordparts.com and ask him for the P/N. I got the revision 1 recall part from him, rather then let the dopes at the dealer touch my truck.
