Constant 12v power at trailer plug?

Hello everyone,

A couple of buddies of mine with Ford F150's and F250's have, at the 7 prong port in the back of the truck, constant power. My 2004 F150 SuperCrew FX4 does not appear to have it. I fly R/C airplanes and need to be able to charge batteries on my tailgate and it would be nice to do it w/o having to open the hood.

I did find the fuse/relay in the bag that came with the truck that said it was for an electric trailer installation and plugged it in, but that didnt work. The only time I get 12v to the port is when the truck is running and/or I turn on my lights/step on brake etc. Yes, I have tried it in ACC mode too but that didnt work.

Should all Fords have power to the 7 or 4 port outlet? Seems strange that someone with the same year truck but a F250 vs. a F150 would have it but I dont. The towing package was a factory default btw, not something I added.

Any opinions/help?

Thanks,

dave

Don't know about the F-250, but your trailer install directions show the battery charge relay is powered from the ign switch in the run position.

If you want to be brave, and have this power all the time at the hitch, you can pull the battery charge relay, and jumper this directly, so power is back there all the time?

This would put the 20A battery charge fuse directly to the plug, without the relay.

If you are interested in this modification, let us know.

the other option is to wire power back there yourself using 12/3 SOJ cord from Home Depot. you would run this from a fuse connection on the battery, back to the rear of the truck, and put in either a 12V DC plug, 12V DC plug, or a SAE plug.

2015 ?

Okay I used a jumper on my 2012 to give constant 12v to the 7 pin connector. Does anyone know which location to jump on the 2015? Can it even be done?

Thx,
Steve
