03 focus ZX3 alternator excision

I know it's not a F-150, but it is a Ford.
I just yarded out a practically new alternator from a Focus that I just acquired, ( worst cluster f--- I ever saw ) and about took a crowbar to the sob. I'd rather build a boat in a bottle than do that again. I know with reasonable certainty that the regulator is all that's wrong with it. I've had more trouble with integrated regulators than any other electrical component in all the Fords I've owned.
Anybody savvy on a quality regulator to replace the existing one with? Input appreciated.

Question Hello----------

Are things slowing down on this site, or has it just degraded to a myspace forum?

More than likely there are no serviceable parts. Not from Ford anyway. On one of those models they had a 2 amp fuse in the fuse panel under the hood. Check that if it has one. If not you need a new alt. Get a Ford one, aftermarket ones WILL NOT work. Some of those also come out the top pretty easy after you take the 3 bolts loose from the motormount to the body and shift the engine forward. Hope this helps.

Thanks. Actually, what happened is one of the solder connections and the glue holding it in place on the rectifier tore loose when I was at about 6500 rpm. (thats when the dash light came on). The guy that did an upgrade rebuild on it for me said thats a common problem, as the alternator is cranking circa 15000 rpm at that engine rpm, and the centrifugal force is too much for the glue joint. Additionally, there are 3 different regulators that all look the same, but have different applications, and someone put the wrong one in this alt. when they worked on it. Yeah, next time I pull the motor mount and get a bigger gap. That's a tight squeeze. Good news is, I got all new, quality parts for $110.00, and thats a whole bunch cheaper than new.

sounds good! I just know that alot of alts if not ford won't work on some of these newer vehicles. the ones that are processor controled really don't like the aftermarket ones. good luck! sounds cheap enough too!
