When I bought my truck The guy did not have the remotes anymore. I want to get some. The dealer is pretty spendy and I searched and there some some places out there to buy some. How do I know if I am getting the right one. Plus are the ones bought from a non dealer good quality?

 

E-bay is your friend. You can actually get new original Ford remotes pretty cheap. Do a little searching. Remember that a lot of these guys that sell remotes and chipped keys on e-bay may not have yours on auction but nonetheless carry it. A lot of reputable guys selling, remember as always on e-bay to look at rating and quantity count. I don't do business with anyone on e-bay with less that a 98 and preferably more. That and a high enough sold count and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have purchased other, more obscure, remotes from them in the past. In general, any 3 button Ford remote should work.

2003 and older will use the ones with the solid lock icons
2004 and newer use the ones with the outline lock icons

Programming instructions are in the user manual.

 

Interesting Phil -

My OEM remotes for my 2005 have solid lock icons on them. But, you're right, the link for the replacement ones shows outline icons for my model year. Wonder why?

In any case, looks like a fair price for these things. Maybe I should get an "extra".
