Rivals HID

I tried an HID kit and didn't particularly like the light pattern that it generated so I decided to see if I could get more light out of the existing system. I begin by bypassing the factory wiring the headlights and utilizing relays and 14 guage wiring rewired the headlight connectors. I also put in Phillips Vision Plus bulbs and I have to say that the result really rivals HID in the amount of light and the pattern is much better than I got with the HID kit. It's pretty straightforward the only difficult part is wiring the new connectors for the H13 bulb. It takes 2 realys, one for low beam and one for high beam, a female connector to one of the factory H13 connector (this is used as a "trigger" for the relays) and 2 new female connectors for the headlights. Also requires 3 spools of 14 guage wire. Cost is about $55 including the PHillips Vision Plus bulbs. You can see a general wiring diagram on the Daniel Stern site, which is basically what I followed. It took me about 6 hours but I think it was well worth it. It's not much more effort to install than the HID kit with the exception of wiring 3 new connectors.

The beauty of the setup is that is leave the factory harness stock, no changes whatsoever.

At the same time I did this, I put a set of the PIAA 520 ST SMR driving lights on and man do they put out the light. I think I can miss the deer around here now!

Be glad to answer any question you might have it you want to do this, believe me it's really worth it!

I think I've know got all of the light I need to miss the deer around here

Yeah, it's called flipping the switch MANUALLY when it gets dark or when there is inclement weather.

You wanted a solution? Well, there you have it my friend and you heard it first from me!

Getting back on topic. So you went back to halogen bulbs?

I don't want to hijack, but I'm not liking the pattern of the Depo lights with HID's. I don't know what lights you used or what you really did, but from what I remember with the stock bulbs in the depo lights, the beam pattern was very similar. Maybe I got a bad set of lights or the HID's aren't seated properly. It's kinda hard to describe the beam pattern without pics, but there is a circle in the middle of the beam that isn't lit as well as the surrounding light, and then there is an upside down "L" that is very bright that is located on the right side of the beam and extends above what most would consider the cutoff to be. Both lamps show this pattern. Other than those spots, I don't have any complaints about the setup.
