3rd key won't program?

Hello all I have a 2001 f-150 super. My wife lost my second key so I had to buy two more. Well went to the dealer and they programed the secomd key. So I have two working keys now. Went out today to program the 3rd key and it will not take? Seems to be easy enough to do. I have tried about 15 times now. Says to put the first key in set to 3 then move to 4 for at least a second then back to 3 then 2 within 5 seconds put the second working key in and do the same. Then the 3rd. Ok did all that and nothing. The two keys work fine. Any advice? I really don't want to pay the dealer to program another damn key. Thanks

The instructions should be in your manual, I assume you are following them. From what I remeber you have to "cycle" the key three times, switch keys cycle threes times switch to the 3rd key and cylce to on, all within 10 seconds?
I would just read the manual but make sure your cycling the key

Few things could be wrong ( and I won't just say read the manual again, seems to did this ).

Q1. Did you buy the truck new ?
1.1. The reason I ask, is there is a parameter that can be set ( SPARE_KY ) that can be set, so additional key programming via the 2 key method is disabled. Think fleet vehicle that you don't want employees making another key for, and using it off hours.
1.2. You could be to the 8 key limit, if the PID NUMKEYS has not been changed from the default of 8 ( this can be set to any valid range of 0-8 ).

The tech really should have cut the new 2nd & 3rd keys, hooked up the NGS or WDS, erased all the keys in the HEC, and turn the ign off, disconnect the NGS /WDS and then put in the 1st key, turn to the run position for 3 seconds, turn the ign off, remove that key, insert the 2nd key, turn the ign to the run position for 3 seconds turn off,, and returned your truck with the 2 programmed keys, and the 3rd un-programmed key.

Q2. When you tried the programming in the Owners manual, did you have a nice rhythmic pace ? I had a problem programming my additional key on my 2001, where I hauled *** through the sequence, and it would not enter programming mode. I slowed down, and took my time, minding the max time at each step, and the truck entered programming mode just fine. That is why I found out the first time I did a PATS additional Key programming. You might have this already.

The only other thing I can think of ( aside from Q1 & Q2 above ) is the 3rd PATS key you had cut is faulty ? Not probable, but possible.

Sorry off the top of my head, there is nothing I can think of right now, aside from what is listed above. This could require a trip back tot he dealer.
