Jump started, now gas guage is wrong.

This morning my 04 FX4 was dead. Lights would come on but no crank, not even a click. I jump started it with my wife's van and after it started it seemed to work normal except for the gas gauge. I know my tank is close to full but the gauge said empty and the low fuel warning light was on. After about 15 minutes the gauge drifted up to almost half a tank which is still wrong. Is there a way to reset the gauges? My battery is the original, should I just replace it as a precaution at this point or is there another problem somewhere?

I would give it some time, see what happens. Replace your battery if need be (if it is truly dead) and see if that does it. If not, once you get your battery recharged try unhooking it for 15 minutes and then hooking it back up and starting it normally.
