Thermometer and compass have stopped working

On my 2002 f150 the overhead console thermometer and compass have stopped working. I did a search and really didn't find this particular issue.

Anyone have any ideas about what could be the problem? I'm most great full for any information.

No cracks and all of the rock chips get repaired right away. There is a heavy layer of muddy road grime from our recent Chinook weather.

Here is something you can try, http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/44...-gone-out.html
Mine doesn't work either, and I am planning on doing this procedure to see it fixes it. But so far have not had the time to do it.
