01 f150 High beams stopped working. need info.
My high beams stopped working the other day. Looked in the owners manual for possible fuse problems. All fuses looked to be good. Everything else on the multifunction switch works fine, but the high beams (on) switch, and the flash (FTP) mode.
Did some searching on this site for the same problems...but didn't find any with the same issues. But found the same story of the multifunction switch going bad. So I bought a new one and installed it today. The same problem happens with the new (MFS) installed. No high beams.
Can some one help solve this problem that I can't seem to find an answer for. Is there any high beam relays I'm missing?
My inspection sticker is out, and I have already received a ticket for it. My court date is coming up soon...So I'm looking for a quick fix.
-thanks

Which Fuse did you check ?
The high beams run through 2 fuses.
Fuse #3 BJB ( Battery junction Box / under hood fuse panel ) powers the MFS.
I woudl assume BJB #3 to be good if your low beams are working.
The next is the fuse to the high beams
Fuse #16 CJB ( Central Junction Box / cab fuse panel ) is the fuse for both high beams.
This fuse feeds the high beams, no relay in the path.
Do you have a high beam indicator on the instrument cluster when you push the MFS forward to the high beam position ?
Did you pull the connector off the bulb and check for voltage at the bulb connector ?
light green w/ black stripe wire = high beam + ( both sides )
black = ground.
Each side has a different color for the low beam, no need to bother with that.

Check fuse F16 in the under dash fuse box.

Thanks SSCULLY, and projectSHO89 for your fast responses.
I checked fuse #3 (30amp) in the BJB. looks good, plus changed it, because I didn't have a test light or meter at the time.
Did the same on fuse #16 (20amp) in the CJB. Looked good.
I do NOT have the blue high beam indicator on the instrument cluster when I click on the high beams or use the flash mode.
I pulled the bulb an looked to see if it had both elements intact. They looked good. Wasn't able to test for power or voltage then. Didn't have a multi-meter.
Will check the wires to the bulb, when I go buy a multi-meter today.
Does anyone have wiring diagram for this year truck? I need to know the flow of power from the BJB to the MFS to the CJB ect... to find the power loss. or does anybody have any other suggestions to try.
-thanks

It's happened before on forums like this. Both headlight bulbs were burned out on the high beam side. Obviously one had been burned our for a while and just not noticed. Beings your high beam indicator doesn't light, this is probably not your problem. Just something to check.
If the high beam indicator is not on that tells it may be something in the switch. Even if the bulb was out the indicator should be on telling you the switch is in High Beam. Its not sensing that so it may be bad switch (I think you said you changed that) or it may be loose wiring to the switch.
Just my .02

Pull fuse F16 and see if one lead is hot with the headlights switch on. If not, the headlight switch is likely the problem.
I'll post a diagram in a little while, can't get to that computer right now.

Got a multi-meter to check power to the high beam leads (green/blk), No power. Was checking the fuse #16 in the (CJB), fuse was good but no power there.
What I found messing with fuse #16, is the (female) wire pin in the (CJB) on one side had become wider than the fuse pin going in. Leaving the one side of the fuse not able to make contact. I just twisted the prongs on the fuse. Once the fuse was able to make contact, I had my high beams working again.
Now, I'm wishing I would have bought a multi-meter first, before buying a new multifunction switch. So now I have a new multifunction switch, for sale cheap. Only plugged in once...If anybody needs one cheap....
Thanks to everybody on this form for there help, advice, and info. Problem solved.
