Aftermarket reverse lights or light bar
Aftermarket reverse lights or light bar
I would like to add some additional lighting to my reverse for backing up due to the tinted windows making it hard to see. I have seen 3 options and would like to know your thoughts and experiences...
There is a reverse light that goes on the hitch and has to lights. It plugs into the 7pin towing harness/adapter. And also has a switch on it to turn on manually.
Second, there is the Fire/Ice Lights that goes below the tailgate and acts as a 3rd brake light, blinker and reverse. How bright are the reverses on this?
And last, buying some small piaa or hella driving lights and wiring them into the reverse wire to turn on. I could mount these under the hitch somewhere.
Thanks for the input!

If you plan on placing the manual reverse lights on switch in the cab of the truck, no big deal to use normal driving lamps, as you are going to be running wire front to rear on the truck already ( access to battery for fog / drivng lamp circuit ).
Here is a picture of the truck-lite reverse lamps on my 2001 SCrew at night ( same ones I now have on my 2006 )

Sample diagram for adding 55 W fog lamps to the rear of your truck, with the manual turn on switch in the cab of the truck :
I have the White Knight and it works fine for me and is very bright. I bought the model that clamps on and can stay in place with a hitch. No problem getting a hitch in or out. You have to hook it to a power source and reverse light wire, both of which are on the 7-way trailer plug.
You can see how it looks on mine in my gallery. Some receivers let it sit farther back under the bumper so it's flush. That might make getting a pin in and out difficult though. I'll have to ask a guy at work that has his flush with the bumper.
