Exclamation Fuel (gas cap) light came on and stayed

My light came on for a loose gas cap yesterday and before I got to the dealer to buy a new one ( after checking that it was on) the check engine light came on. Now with a new cap both lights are still on! Any sugguetions?

you need to get the trouble code out of the computer. If you don't have a code reader, you can go to AutoZone, O'Rilleys, PepBoy's....ect. and they will read the computer for free. Write down the code that you get from you computer and post it here, we'll be able to help you out a lot better that way. After you have the code, just clear the code from the computer, and your lights will go out on you dash. It may come back, that means you probably have another problem other than the gas cap, but post the code you get and members here will be able to tell you what it means.

You likely have a leak in the evaporative emissions system.

You will need the fault code(s) to get started.
