Fog Light Bulb Help

Hi folks,

2003 F-150 STX

I had a fog light go out, so I picked up a bulb today while in town - Auto Zone looked it up and gave me a 9145.

So go to change it, and the 9145 won't fit - glass part of the bulb is too big to go into the space.

Here I am, about 3 hours later after tons of research. I think someone in the past (I bought the truck used) put Harley Davidson lights on it. I knew the headlights looked different, but didn't think anyone would change the fogs.

According to the Ford manual, if a Harley, use bulb H1. Well, as you can see in the photo, my original bulb has the 90 deg connector on it.

I've searched and searched, and can not seem to find the right bulb number.

In the photo, the left is one or the original from the fog light - bulb on the right is a 9145.

Can anyone tell me the bulb number I need?

Thanks

Thanks, but -

When I look for an H1 bulb, this is all I find:

Does that bulb pull out of the plastic angled connector?

Okay, I'm sorry, I see what you're saying now.

I'm not sure if the bulb pulls out of the plastic housing/connector... I didn't think any of the Silverstars were like that.

You have two options if nobody else can chime in here.

1. Visit your local automotive outlet and have a look at the bulb [H1] in person and compare it side-by-side to the burnt one you pulled out. Ask the sales associate if the bulb is removable from the housing.

2. Contact Sylvania/Silverstar through one of the methods below -

National Customer Service and Sales Center: U.S.A.

Automotive Lighting: 1-800-347-3420

OR

Email - HERE

Good luck.

Thanks Grubrunner -

If the bulb would pull out of the plastic housing, I am kind of screwed. The one that went out - when I went to turn it in the socket to remove it, it totally fell apart - all corroded inside. The one in the photo is the good one from the opposite side.

I plan on stopping at a couple parts stores and the Ford dealer on Saturday when I go to town - not too hopeful though as I live in the boonies, and these stores/dealer usually have no clue unless the part is on their shelf. That is why I was asking here hoping that someone might have had a similar issue.

Thanks again for your replies - I'll update if/when I have any success.

I have these strange feeling that I am going to have to replace the whole fog light assembly - then I would have to do both to have them match.......I certainly hope it doesn't come to this!

If that does happen to be some kind of adaptor, be careful about touching any part of the glass H1 bulb with your bare hands. That will lead to hot spots in the glass and premature bulb failure. That would be all you need after all you've been through!

Not sure if this helps, but I have an 07 f150
original number is 9140 12v 40w
replaced it with aftermarket 9005 65w Blue from plasma glow-its a HID xenon+krypton bulb-fits perfect and is alot brighter and is DOT compliant
