Turn on ambient air temp. readout?

I an driving a 2005 F-150 XL and picked up an ambient air sensor at the junk yard. I plugged it in behind the grill in the designated spot as the wiring was there. I thought that the computer may just register the new sensor and turn it on in the odometer/temp read out. I was wrong.

Does the XL come with the capability to utilize the temp. sensor and readout on the odometer display if it did not come as an option? Is there a way to turn on a "virtual switch" in the computer? Thanks for the all of the help.

I'm definetly not certian, but you may have to make the vehicle recognize the sensor by having it programmed. Meaning a trip to the dealer. I think the cluster is the same for XL, XLT.

Just because the engine bay harness contains that wiring, that doesn't mean ALL the harnesses support it. Your dash harness might not have the wires to actually connect the sensor to the cluster.
