2003 Lariat - Air bag light flashing 3, 2, solid
2003 Lariat - Air bag light flashing 3, 2, solid
Air bag light flashing 3, 2, solid. I did some searching and found that 3 2 is for the clock spring. Or "high resistance or open".
Today I removed my airbag to do some research on the steering wheel (it is showing some wear in a few spots and so I am considering replacing). I followed some instructions I found online for removing the airbag. First I disconnected the battery and let the truck sit for a few minutes. Then I tried the starter and the lights to drain the electrical system. Then I removed the 2 caps on the back of the steering wheel and then removed the 2 screws then I unplugged the horn and the airbag and set the airbag off the the side on a clean solid surface while I inspected the steering wheel.
I removed nothing else! I did not touch any other hardware other than the 2 screws holding the airbag.
Once I wrote down the part # of my wheel and took pictures of the whole thing I plugged in the horn and air bag, put the air bag in place, re installed the 2 screws, re installed the 2 caps, re connected the battery. Let the thing sit for a few minutes then re cranked and the air bag did not explode so I felt good
Upon going back out to my truck and cranking it before a trip I had this evening, I notice that the airbag light was blinking then going solid. I have since counted and it is blinking 3 times, then 2 times, then repeating, then going solid.
How could the clock spring have gone bad or been damaged from what I did??? Could the air bag just not be plugged in all the way (high resistance or open)? Or is the clock spring the most fragile thing known to man? Any advice, tips or anything else before I go through all that again and remove it again and check the plug?
Horn and cruise control both work fine BTW.

Thanks for the help
So after reading all the advice and suggestions here ("ha ha") I went out this morning and disconnected the battery, let everything sit for a few minutes, removed the airbag again, re-installed it again, re-connected the battery again, turned on the truck and NO LIGHT! Turned it back off and let it sit for a while then went out to run some errands and still no light. All I can figure is something was not reset or else the plug was not really "plugged". Either way it is back to normal now (no flashing/steady light). Thanks for the all tips and suggestions.
