intermittent no start

Hello new here been looking around and finally decided to join. I have a 1998 f150 ext. cab flare side. Every now and then i go to start the truck and it just clicks when i turn the key. at first i thought contacts but starter was already replaced. its coming from passenger side. I have popped the hood and had someone start it and it comes from the starter and realy box to the right of the battery under the hood. i have removed this cover and put my hand on...not sure what it was and felt it when it made the clicking noise..sorry i know i'm not much help but is tehre a way to fix this and what is this thing thats clicking? haha thanks in advance and i look forward to everyones helpful suggestions

Post a picture of what you are putting your hand on.

I'll bet you're battery is dead, or close. If it clicks once every time you attempt, probably starter. It seems when the battery goes, that's it, but if the alternator or starter go, it's like a chain reaction. I'd have the solenoid looked at or replaced if needed, the starter checked, the alternator and the battery. Remember to put dielectric grease on exposed electrical contacts so they don't corrode.
