Power window cable unspooled?

Went to lunch and rolled down my window, thought it made a funny noise, rolled it back up when we got to the restaurant. When I got back outside it was all the way down. After taking off the panel I notice the cable had unspooled off one of the pully's. Anyone have any idea what would cause this and if it is something that I can fix myself or do I have to take it in? Also I had to take off the plasic vapor barrier to get to everything, is it even worth putting back on?

Thanks torkum, that diagram helps explain a lot. Wonder how much a new regulator is, plus installation?

I had this happen to my truck about a month and a half ago .. new regulator was around $68 I think plus parts and labor. I'm pulling that from my memory, however, so I'm not 100% positive. I know I got out the door for under $200.

Thanks I12AV82, that's not to bad if I do have to end up taking it in to get fixed.
