problem installing auto dim mirror

I have an 06, found an auto dim mirror off a junker in the salvage yard. Based on what I found in the various forums I know what the wires should be:

black/purple strip - reverse trigger
white/blue stripe - 12 v power
solid black - ground

I wired everything up and the power led comes on for the mirror, but it tripped the backup camera I have wired in to my reverse lights as well. I hook up the old multimeter and find the reverse trigger wire is putting out 4 volts +. Is this right? I assumed it would be a dead wire till reverse put a 12 volt + on it to turn off the auto dimming feature.

Thanks,
