I assume when you say the apexi monitor would not recognize it, you mean that the apexi monitor did not power up ?

The statement from Apexi to say "wiring diagram to jump the wires over so it will work" is BS.
An OBDII port is standard, so there are no wires to be moved, and if your state EPA ( if you have one ) to do emissions testing, cannot have the ODB port changed, let alone if you have a problem with your truck, and get a CEL, you would not be able to get the DTC codes from the port if you change it.

If the apexi monitor did not power up, check the Central Junction Box ( pass compartment fuse panel ) Fuse #3 - 20 A. This is the fuse for the Cigar lighter, and the ODB-II port. Could be blown.

If this fuse is good, the next is to check if there is a fuse in the tip of the 12v power connector on the apexi monitor. If you are trying the install using the Cigar lighter, you can try to use the power plug next to the cigar lighter ( separate fuse ).

it powers up but will not recognize it. so they said to just jump the wires over, and to probably have a mechanic do it....i contacted ford and they said they can do it, so maybe they are full of BS
