AC turned off on its own, why?
2005 F150 Lariat 4x4 S.Crew.
I've had the truck almost 2 years now. On 2 occasions now while driving, the AC just shut off completely. The first time occurred during the first summer, in 2005. I had the AC running on high, had been in the truck about 9 minutes. While sitting at a stop light, it just shut itself off, no lights, nothing. I turned it right back on, but had to lower the temp back down to 60 from 75.
It happened again today. I was pulling into a parking lot about 3/10 of a mile up from my office, so I had only been in it for 3 or so minutes. I turned it on high with the temp at 60 when I started it up. Pulled into the other parking lot and it did it again. I did hear a faint whining sound as though a fan was still trying to run but it was very faint. I turned it back on and had to lower the temp again from 75 to 60. It ran fine on the short trip back from the bank.
Any ideas? I did a search using "AC" and "AC shuts off" but nothing came up.
