Auto daytime driving lights

Hi,
I have an 07 lariat. How do I get the daytime running lights to stay on all the time automatically? Currently my headlights are off when my truck is running in any gear during daylight hours. thanks
Marc

Sounds like you do not have DRLs installed.

There are a few parts you would need to buy, and install to get DRLs working, don't know if you are up for this or not.

You should be able to :

1. Purchase and install the DRL resistor.
1.1. Ford Dealer, this should be installed on an open connector behind the rubber flap on the left hand side, next to the head lamp.
2. In the Aux Relay box under the hood, install R03 & R201.
2.1. This is under the hood, check the owners manual for the location, if you have not found it already.

With both the DRL resistor & Relays installed :
R201 Normally open contacts ( from Fuse #F40 ) feeds R03 Normally Closed contacts. R03 coil is activated by the high beams ( when high beams on, shuts off DRLs ).

Relay R03 feeds power via the resistor to the low beams ( via low beam fuses F23 & F25 ) for the DRL function ( illuminates them with a lowered voltage due to the voltage drop across the DRL resistor ).

I guess starting t check for the connector for the DRL resistor behind the flap prior to ordering parts should be in order.

The relays you can get at Ford, or an after market version at a Autozone or Pepboys
Use the Ford Part numbers :
Ford 1/2 ISO Relay : 4F1T-14B192-AA
Ford Full ISO Relay : 5C3T-14B192-AA
- Relay R03( 1/2 size ISO relay ) DRL high beam disable
- Relay R201 ( full size ) DRLs

Hope this is the info you were looking for, let us know if you have the DRL connector located, and where we need to go next.

And further to the KISS (keep it simple, stupid) approach, just throw your hat over the daylight sensor on the dash. Auto on, auto off.

A little piece of black tape works just fine, and doesn't cost much.

This is me being dumb again, Is the light/dark sensor what blinks when you have the doors locked? I am thinking it is since I have not seen anything else that resembles a sensor. Thanks

Yes, the sunload sensor on the '04+ MY trucks is paired with the PATS indicator LED on the driver's side dash.

This is for the Autolamps, and on the EATC HVAC systems, part of the auto temp function ( Lariat & FX4 Lux edition ).
