Horn won't turn off!!

Hi all,

About a 3 months ago, the horn in my 1999 F150 just started going off incessently. I had to pull the fuse as a quick fix just to be able to go back to sleep. I tried putting it back in yesterday, which worked fine except when I came out of my driveway a little fast the horn went off for a second and then turned off again, so I just pulled the fuse again and went looking for answers.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem may be? I was thinking the pressure sensitive switch in the steering wheel, but I'm aprehensive about doing anything around the airbags.

If it's something I really shoudln't be messing with myself, I have gone to an independent mechanic before, but he always wants parts ahead of time so I would need to go to ford and get it first if that's the case. Is this something that can be done easily or should I take it to a shop and have them do it?

Thanks!
-Jason

Welcome to the nut house that we call f150online. lol. I had the same problem with another vehicle. The reason why your horn maybe going off is due to a broken clock spring in the steering wheel. If my memory serves me correctly, the clock spring keeps the electrical contact (horn) between the steering wheel and the steering column. As you can tell by the description, I believe that it is located on top of the steering column and would require the removal of the steering wheel to get to the clock spring.

Hopefully someone else will chime in here and good luck.
