Power window upgrade, fuse pop
Power window upgrade, fuse pop
06 F150 Regular Cab Truck
Upgrading crankstyle to power window
I hooked up the 12v input to the truck's Light Green/Purple wire.
After awhile i realized that my truck wouldnt start.
I checked the fused it it turned out my ignition harness fuse blew. (No. 102 20amp fuse)
Can i not hook up the 12v input to that Light Green/Purple wire? (the factory wire did look alittle too thin)
Anyone who has already did this, where did you tap into for the 12v?
Also, my window down movement is fast, but when i window up. It is slow!!!
Is everyones up movement this slow?!?
I will time it to get the exact time tomorrow.
Before i plug back the 12v, can someone tell me why the fuse poped?

Well your learning the current requirements are considerable and have their own circuits, in the normal option.
The motor loading is obviously much heavier on closing. Is the installation as free moving as it should be?
A check of circuits for power windows shows some use circuit breakers and some use 30 amp fuses.
You just can't connect in to any source without fuse size considerations as well as wire sizes to handle the loads imposed by the window motors.
Know what happens when the window closes and the switch is not released fast enough? This is one reason circuit breakers are used. They auto reset when needed.
To boot, most trucks now use relays with their own protection and feed sources to operate these hi current devices so there is a min of upset to the rest of the truck when there are problems.
Good luck.
