looking for a new computer
i know the title is a bit vague.ok here goes about a month ago my truck died was showing a code p0232.something to do with the fuel system so i took it to a garage they ran some tests (originally i thought the fuel pump was dead) well its not the fuel pump they told me i had some problem with the computer(its just a little shop they mainly do alignments and simple things like that but im friends with a couple of the mechanics so they said theyd take a look at it).now to be honest i think it was my stupid fault that its broke.here goes call me stupid if you want but i already know it.i bought a super chips programmer and when doing the tune (ive tuned it up an down a couple of times) when it askes if the fuel system is disabled i would just hit the yes even though it wasnt. i know stupid. i shoulda got on here and asked why it needed to be disabled. since im here i might as well ask now, why? now im pretty sure ive messed up the computer ive kinda halfa$$ed looked on the net but aside from going to a dealer when can i get one?i thought about the junkyard but how would i know if the one i buy even works? or is there somewhere i could just send mine to and they could reflash it or something like that?
Doing what you said will not hurt the computer. The reason they have you disable the fuel system is to prevent dumping raw fuel into your engine.
The P0232 code means
"P0232 - Fuel Pump Secondary Circuit High NOTE: For natural gas applications, the following description applies to the fuel
shutoff valve monitor (FSVM) and the fuel shutoff valve power (FSV PWR) circuits.
The PCM monitors the fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit. This test fails when the PCM detects voltage on the FPM circuit
while the fuel pump is commanded OFF. The FPM circuit is wired to a pull-up voltage inside the PCM. The FPM circuit will
go high if, with the key ON and the fuel pump commanded OFF, the FPM/FP PWR circuit loses its path to ground through
the fuel pump. The FPM circuit will also go high if the FPM/FP PWR circuit is shorted to power.
Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch not reset or electrically open
Open circuit between the fuel pump and the FPM connection to the FP PWR circuit
Poor fuel pump ground
Fuel pump electrically open
Fuel pump secondary circuits short to power
Fuel pump relay contacts always closed
Open FPM circuit between PCM and connection to FP PWR circuit
Damaged low speed fuel pump relay or concern with related circuits (if equipped).
Damaged PCM
Continuous memory P0232 can be set if the IFS switch was tripped, then reset, or if the fuel pump circuit is activated
when the PCM expected the circuit to be off (i.e. fuel system test or prime procedure)."

ok so really what does that mean?where else should i look? the reason my friends at the shop said the pump was still good was because they just bypassed everything hooked it straight to the battery and it ran.the reason that they also think it might be the computer is cause as soon as you turn the key the horn blows and the doors lock.granted like i said their shop really wasnt equipped and they were just doing me a favor im kinda at a loss. i mean the pump works if it gets power but without bypassing the whole system it doesnt get power.ive since replaced every fuse and relay.gonna change the inertia switch this weekend it never tripped but that really the last thing i can think of other than the computer going bad an oh yeah the last time i was driving it it was runnin great until i shut it off to go into a store when i came out and restarted it thats when everything got nutty.i also think its the computer because when i do a search on here for any forum for the p0232 code one topic pops up in the lightning forum (i know completely different engine)but same problem and one of the guys there stated that it ended up being his computer.if it helps i have a 2002 4x4 4.6.luckily my friends never charged me anything he even towed it for free(that was a sad site a pickup being towed)
thanks for your advise norm turns out it was just the fuel pump. i need to stop listening to horror stories from friends lol took 2 days offa work figured screw it whats the worst i could do. dropped the tank then i was able to find the pumps power source power went to the pump so bought a new pump runs like a champ. the horn and door lock thing i dont know why it was doing that but since the battery was disconnected the comp reset its self and problem gone ya me
