Cruise won't engage

I've searched and didn't find a thread with my issue.

2001 screw, 5.4 2WD. I push the on button on the crusie control and then push SET and the green crusie light on the dash flashes for a brief second and it will not engage.

Any ideas on where to start?

Thanks guys.

Look closely to see if you can count the lamp flashes.
This will tell me what to look at for probable cause.
There are a number of items that can be a cause , so try to narrow it down if possible, otherwise it's a chase over a lot of different parts.
As you see, the system attempts to work but detects a fault.

Hi, it flashes one time, when push the SET button it flashes once, that's it.

I did have the recall performed a while ago. It did this before and after the recall repair.

It's been a gradual change, it would engage if I pushed it enough times and now it's gotten to a point where it won't engage now.

Thanks much,

Next question, does it attempt to have the engine pull the load at all before it drops off?
If no, the control cable or servo is suspect.
Check for sticking/binding cable.
If ok, suspect the Servo.

Nope, won't engage at all, tiny quick flash on the dash of the green cruise light and that's all it does.

It's pretty easy to pop the cable housing off the side of the servo to inspect that end of the cable. Then follow it around to the throttle lever & make sure it's still clipped on at that end. There's also an adjusting clip there to take up any slack.

Thanks guys.

Advanced Search > keyword "speed control self test" > username "projectsho89" will dig up several threads which have the factory self-test that you can run.

Run it and see what, if any, flash codes are presented.

self test performed, 2 flases

I finally got around to the self test tonight, the one where you hold the cruise off button, turn the key then push the rest of the crusie control buttons in a certain order, at the end it gave me 2 flashes.

Anyone know what that code means ?

thanks guys
