Post Newbie Needs Help

I AM NEW TO THE SITE AND WOULD LIKE TO SAY HELLO FROM ALBERTA CANADA

I have a problem with my 1996 f150 and am hoping for some help. The problem i have is with the heat/air cond. system. The heater works fine and blows hot air as needed in this part of canada at this time of the year but the air cond. compressor is cycling on and off but does not effect the quality of heat. When i run the air conditiong on its own the air conditiong works fine blowing cold air. I have inspected the wiring going to the compresor and it seems fine .Any help would be greatly appreciated

It's totally normal for the compressor to run when you select MAX A/C, NORM A/C, MIX, or DEFROST. And it will cycle when either a) the outside temperature is low, or b) it's low on refrigerant.

If you're concerned that it's abnormal, take it to a pro that you trust to actually check it out at a reasonable price. The system charge & clutch gap NEED to be checked periodically, and if any leaks are found (especially at any low point), the oil charge needs to be corrected. Make sure they only use PAG-42 oil in any Ford; not the more common PAG-100, which is for GMs.
