110v inverters? Who's got 'em.

I'm buying a new 07, and so it's time for a new inverter. I had a 250W installed in my '07 inside the cab which I used for charging my laptop when out and about and running the occasional small electrical tool. My only issue is the fans on it were really loud. I'm thinking underhood may be a better way to go, but I know very little about these units.

Who's got one? Any tips/tricks?

250W is pretty small for any power tool - it takes a 1KW for me to recharge my 19.2V cordless tool batteries & to run a 4 1/2" angle grinder.

The cooler, the better, so I wouldn't put it under the hood. And I doubt it's rated for that kind of exposure (to water, salt, & dirt), so I'd mount it in the cab somewhere. Under the seat, on the rear wall, ...

I set mine up to transfer to any vehicle, so it just has some monster jumper-cable clamps, and I rest it under the hood while in use, & then throw it in the trunk/tool box/garage when not.
