I don't know what year truck you have but my stock radio is pretty good.
I will say that a bad antenna mounting ground on the fender really killed the reception once and caused all kinds of noises from the PCM.
Find the stock radio very selective and keep stations seperated on each side of the ones I listen too most often on FM. Wished my other cars did as good a job.

Not to sound like a smart-***, but did you remember to plug the antenna back in? Been there, done that.
Also, bad grounds (antenna or radio), and a head unit that requires tuning the antenna input can cause problems. Check the owner's manual for the new head unit to see if it mentions adjusting the antenna input for best reception.
