air bag light stays on
air bag light stays on
Recently I installed a new stereo in my truck. I had to remove the facia around the old system which also has the air bad on/off switch on it. After the install was done, I reconnected everything and now the light on the dash won't go off and the on/off switch is disabled. I double checked all the connections. What do I do?
Thanks.
Thanks.
This is a really easy fix, I had the same thing happen to me when I installed my new alpine deck in my 05 Scab.
When you removed the radio trim panel, you either loosened or completely disconnected the airbag light at the very top of the trim piece. It needs to be securely snapped all the way on, or the airbag system will detect an electrical fault and will disable the system, and the airbag warning light on your instrument cluster will stay lit.
Go ahead and pull that panel back off, and wiggle that connector onto the led as tight as it will go, then go ahead and turn the ignition key on and see if that didn't fix the problem before you reattach the panel.
I'm 99.9 % sure this will fix your problem, but if it doesn't then your dealer's service department should be able to fix whatever wire is loose in a few minutes tops.
Let me know how it works out.

What is the airbag flash code? If 27, there's something screwed up with the lamp circuit in the PAD assembly. As suggested, pull the trim piece back off and make certain you reconnected everything.
AutoZone cannot read ABS or SRS codes, don't waste any time going there hoping for help.

Very informative posts in this column. I wanted to know what device could read the alternate device codes for air bags and such, but dealer techs are of little use or info. I think that they can get around $100.00 for a check run if you "really need" to know.
Mine is blinking "52" after replacing a fuse in the cabin fuse/relay box. The fuse was the window regulator circuit, but somehow affected the current to the air bag monitor circuit.
Is there some some on line link to a site for airbag diagnostic codes?

I've also got a 52 code. I took the dash all aprt to do the GEM and some lights on the speedo among a few other things.
I'd like to know if anyone finds out something.
Back when I did this someone said a 52 code means the aux. power to the air bag is disonnected. Its from a capacitor. I was gonna look into this again this weekend.

Alright, I had the same problem with installing my stereo. I have a 99 F150 XL and read another post about a code 27. Do you have the ability to turn off the drivers side air bag with the key switch? If you do, then all you have to do is replace the bulb which indicates the system is either on or off. I did it just yesterday and everything is fine. Total cost = 1 soldering iron from walmart 4.99 some solder and a 1.39 12 volt bulb equals a quick fix. Take the three retaining screws off the back of the airbag switch assembly and pull off the plastic top and expose the circuit board and you will see the small 12 v light you have to replace.
