Question What is this connector for?

'05 XLT Screw, there's what appears to be an 8 pin connector mounted directly below the steering wheel. Is this the plug for code readers? Have had this truck since new and never noticed it until today... :o

its where you plug in a code reader/scanner and gives up all the trouble codes and what not.... Its all the same connector in just about every car since 96/97 i believe

8 pin connector sounds like the electronic brake controller hook up :
Is this what you found ? :

OBD II plugs are 16 pins not 8.
If the connector is not the one above, is the connector D shaped like an old printer Centronics connector ?
This would be a D shell on it's side, 8 pins on the top row, 8 pins on the bottom row, with a line separating the rows. OBD II ports do not have covers on them ( neither does the E-Brake hook up for that matter ).
