Turn Signal

On my 1997 F150 when I hit the turn signal it will click real fast and no blinking arrow will appear on the dash. Also the outside lights will not blink. If I try it again it will work fine. Sometimes I have to hit the blinker two or three times before it clicks normal and the blinker come on (inside and out). What could be causing this?

Thanks
Kurt

Most likely, the connector terminals have pulled out of the upper MFS connector. It's very common, especially if you tilt your wheel all the way down. You can buy a new connector at a parts store or the dealer that comes with new terminals on pigtail wires. But it's MUCH quicker & easier to just PUUUUUUULLLLLL a little slack into your wires & insert your original terminals into the new connector shell. Just be SURE to get them into the right positions. Some applications require you to cut the top socket off the new connector shell.

I can also wiggle the turn signal and it will start working so it is probably the switch.

I posted the diagram mainly so you could get the wires back in position, but you could easily test the MFS while you have the connector off. I've heard that your version of the MFS is expensive, but the one for '92-96 trucks will work, and it's only ~$25 at most parts stores. The only difference is the shape/color of the blinker stalk. It's electrically identical.
